A mindful, thoughtful and active community.
A group that, if needed, works together to tackle a problem and, if not needed, works together anyway. A beautiful place where I wish to return, this is a city. The air you breath, this is a city.
Helping people that suffer. Waking up in the morning and knowing where you are. A dream, a wish, a fulfilled promise, this is a city. Making apparently impossible things possible. Milan when it snows, this is a city. Home, this is a city.
Starting to change ourselves in the hope that others will change, too. Redistribution of opportunities, this is a city. A programme that can always be changed and is open to new solutions, because the city is a living thing and not a mathematical equation. The possibility of choosing the job you like. Taking a leap into the unknown because you know someone will cushion your fall, this is a city. Knowing that night doesn't necessarily mean illegality. Not feeling alone, this is a city. Being judged not by how much you earn but by what you are and what you can do for the community. Together, this is a city.
Finding money for important and urgent things, this is a city. More than the sum of the parts, this is a city. Putting your time at everyone's disposal, this is a city. Looking at other cities to avoid their same mistakes or adopt their positive approaches or even just to see what's up there, this is a city. Making children feel good, this is a city. Libraries for foreigners, this is a city.
Knowing the past, improving the present, having a future. The common feeling of living in the same place for a reason, this is a city. A public space, this is a city.
Longing and asking for peace, this is a city. Taking care of the elderly. A collective protest, this is a city. Suburbs turning into centre and viceversa, to create a whole. Alternatives and possibilities. Accepting, assembling, creating together. Experimenting even if you know you could fail. Imagining and foreseeing the future.
A mental place, this is a city. A serious game, this is a city. Disabled who find no difficulties in going around and citizens that are not afraid to look at them in their very eyes, this is a city. Talking to the public and knowing that there is someone listening. Common and respected rules of coexistence. An interactive network, this is a city.
Not being afraid to start huge projects with minimal means because you know that others will join you. Free rooms for occasional visitors, this is a city. Knowing what the City Council does, how it does it and why. Knowing that things must be changed together, otherwise you won't go far. A tree that grows and an old man that shows it to his grandchild, this is a city.
Long-term and farseeing projects and not propaganda. Windows that open when something happens in the street, this is a city. Knowing that everything is possibile, knowing whom you can talk to, putting it into action, this is a city.
Being aware that the greatest risk is not taking one. Not everything is for sale, this is a city. A shelter full of people you trust, this is a city. Finding solutions because you know there's many of you, this also can be a city. A common ground managed by people together. Taking some time to ponder, being brave enough to change direction, admitting you've done a mistake, this is a city. Not leaving anything abandoned. Changing your point of view so as to be ready to change it again in the future. Not just a city, this is a city. Being protected, having duties and rights, having things really at heart, this is a city.
Not thinking only to Milan, this is a city like Milan. A model, this is a city. Sometimes it's easy, because this is a city. Knowing what is happening. Even being afraid but not alone, this is a city. Having walls and opening doors in them. Questa è una città, this is a city.
